Juvenile Injured During Car Theft

Friday, July 15, 2011, a male juvenile, whose name was not released, was seriously injured after being run over by a vehicle in Continental, Ohio. The juvenile was run over after jumping on the hood of a vehicle in attempt to stop its theft by Rebecca Krueger, 18, of Napoleon, Ohio.

State Highway Patrol officers reported that the juvenile, who was "associated with the vehicle," fell off the hood in front of the vehicle after Krueger hit the brakes. Krueger then accelerated and ran over the juvenile. Kruger has been cited for driving without a license and not wearing a seatbelt, and other criminal charges may be filed by the Putnam County Prosecutor's Office.

Not only was Krueger's alleged conduct potentially criminally liable, but civilly as well. Should the juvenile choose to sue, he may be able to recover monetary damages for Krueger's conduct. Individuals suffer personal injury every day from the criminally negligent conduct of others, however, their interest in monetary recovery is often overshadowed by criminal proceedings.
