Ohio Man Claims Sheriff's Deputies Tased Him While Having A Seizure

Casey Stack
38-year-old Coventry Township man Casey Stack is alleging that Summit County
Sheriff's deputies mistook an epileptic seizure he had during an arrest
Friday for an assault on one of the deputies. Stack further alleged that,
after his arrest, he was incarcerated in the Summit County Jail over the
weekend where was deprived of his medication and suffered two more seizures
that were ignored by deputies.
Sheriff's officials contend that they were unaware that Stack was suffering
from any medical condition and that deputies acted quickly to defend themselves
and restrain Stack. The deputies' use of their tasters during the
arrest of Stack is being reviewed internally. The report filed by the
deputies makes no mention of Stack's claim that he was having seizures
during his arrest. Stack's driver's license, which he said he
gave to the deputies before his arrest, notes a medical condition on the back.
Although law enforcement officials are often forced to make split-second
decisions to protect their safety, officers are sometimes overzealous
in the execution of their duties. If an officer acts
negligently or goes too far in using force to restrain a suspect, innocent people
may be injured.
